Koichi Tohei Sensei, the founder of Shinshin Toitsu Aikido (Ki-Aikido), passed away peacefully at 9:14 on May 19th, 2011. He was 91 years old.

Shin Shin Toistu Aikido is offered in the Bay Area through the Northern California Ki Society (NCKS.) NCKS is a member of Shinshin Toitsu Aikido Kai . There are approximately 200,000 members worldwide. Members of the local NCKS travel to Japan and train with members all over the world at the annual World Camp. The Northern California Ki Society began as a university club in the East Bay (Berkeley) in1975, under the direction of Hideki Shiohira Sensei (7th dan). In 1983, Pietro Yuji Maida Sensei was appointed as Chief Instructor of the club. Over the years the club has evolved into a traditional dojo and authorized branch of Shinshin Toitsu Aikido Kai, teaching in the traditions of Tohei Sensei. We welcome beginners and Aikido-ka of any style to practice with us. Training in Aikido for adults and children is offerered throughout Northern California and the Bay Area in the cities of Richmond, Albany, and San Mateo.We encourage first time enthusiasts to visit our aikido classes in the East Bay.
