Introduction to Hitori Waza
and Relax Taiso

Hitori Waza and Relax Taiso

Hitori Waza, which translates to "solo technique," is a set of individual exercises aimed at developing personal mastery of movement, balance, and coordination. These exercises are practiced alone, without a partner, and focus on refining control over one's body while cultivating a deep connection between mind and movement.
Relax Taiso is a five-minute, low-impact aerobic exercise program developed by Koichi Tohei Sensei, designed for people of all ages. It emphasizes rhythm and the unification of mind and body, helping to improve both physical stability and mental focus through regular practice. When integrated into Ki training, the movements of Relax Taiso become deeply relaxed yet powerful, fostering a balanced connection between the body and mind.

Relax Taiso can easily be adapted to a seated position, making it accessible for individuals with mobility limitations or those who prefer a gentler form of movement. While seated, you can still follow the core principles of the exercise: rhythmic motion, coordination, and the integration of mind and body.
