The Northern California Ki Society (NCKS) is a member of Ki No Kenkyukai (Ki Society International). The Ki No Kenkyukai Foundation was established on September 16, 1971 by Koichi Tohei Sensei. There are approximately 200,000 members worldwide. It is the only specialized organization authorized by the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare. Members of the local NCKS travel to Japan and train with members all over the world at the annual World Camp. The Northern California Ki Society began as a university club in 1975 under the direction of Hideki Shiohira Sensei (7th dan). In 1983, Pietro Yuji Maida Sensei was appointed as Chief Instructor of the club. Over the years the club has evolved into a traditional dojo and authorized branch of Ki No Kenkyukai, teaching in the traditions of Tohei Sensei. We welcome beginners and Aikido-ka of any style to practice with us
